How much should I expect to spend for a Rottweiler puppy?.
The price of a puppy can vary dramatically. But remember, this isn't the time to be bargain hunting. The purchase price of a puppy is only the beginning. Over their lifetime they will have cost you thousands of dollars in food and health expenses.
The newspaper is not the place to look to get an idea of what a puppy costs. Most people who breed high quality puppies don't find it necessary to list their litter in the newspaper.
If you are looking for a well bred, pet quality dog, you should expect to spend between $500 and $1000. These puppies should have parents that have health clearances and should not have anything wrong with them physically or with their temperament. A breeder might consider selling a puppy as a pet if they are breeding for conformation and a puppy has a white spot on its chest, or doesn't quite have the head type or structure they're looking for, but is otherwise happy and healhty. Or a breeder that is breeding working dogs might sell a puppy as a pet if it just isn't as outgoing as they are looking for or is a bit "soft" in its temperament.
When you are looking at show quality or high end working dogs, expect to pay alot for high-end dogs. A typical show or working prospect will cost from $1500 to $2500 with some even costing more. Beware that purchasing a show or working prospect is in no way a guarantee of how they will turn out. You can have a wonderful looking puppy whose bite goes bad at 12 months or an excellent working dog whose is displastic at 2 years. If you are purchasing a puppy be sure you discuss with the breeder what will occur if one of these things happens to your puppy. Most will guarantee against genetic faults and will replace your puppy if things don't work out. Just beware of breeder who are charging extremely high prices for a puppy. As was mentioned, puppies are a risk, there's no guarantees it will turn out.
